Sapezhko (1857-1928), before beginning to use\u00a0oral mucosa in his patients, performed experimental\u00a0studies on animals and described five sequential phases\u00a0relating to changes in the transplanted oral mucosa:\u00a0imbibition, inosculation, mucosa dimness, graft cleansing,\u00a0and complete engraftment [4]. Sapezhko performed the\u00a0first two-stage urethroplasty using lip mucosa as early as\u00a01890. In the second case, in 1891, he performed a onestage\u00a0<\/strong><strong>tubularized lip mucosa graft. The third case in\u00a01893 consisted of a one-stage tubed urethroplasty for\u00a0traumatic stricture and a fourth case was later carried\u00a0out [4]. In 1902, the surgeon Thyrmos, who lived in\u00a0Odessa and was a Kirill Sapezhko fellow and followed his\u00a0technique using oral mucosa for urethroplasty, described\u00a0a successful urethroplasty using oral mucosa [4].<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>These pioneering experiences coming from Eastern\u00a0countries were not popularized and were kept out of\u00a0the Western scientific community and literature until\u00a02002 [3].<\/strong><\/p>\n[3] Schultheiss D, Gabouev AI, Korneyev I.
