the\u00a0scrotum\u00a0(the\u00a0sac\u00a0of\u00a0skin\u00a0below the\u00a0penis) that make male\u00a0hormones\u00a0and\u00a0sperm. An\u00a0undescended testicle\u00a0happens when one or both of a child&#8217;s testicles do not drop down into the scrotum before birth. This condition is called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmedhealth\/PMHT0025071\">cryptorchidism<\/a>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When a baby boy develops in his mother&#8217;s\u00a0womb, the\u00a0testicles\u00a0form in the infant&#8217;s\u00a0abdomen\u00a0(belly). Right before birth, the testicles drop down (descend) into the\u00a0scrotum.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In some babies, one or both\u00a0testicles\u00a0do not drop down like they should.\u00a0Undescended testicles\u00a0may be in the belly or\u00a0groin area. It is also possible for a baby to be born without one or both testicles. Undescended testicles could be healthy and work normally. Sometimes, however, undescended testicles do not develop correctly and do not work like they should.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Doctors do not know what causes\u00a0undescended testicles. But, they are not caused by anything the mother did during\u00a0pregnancy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In 7 out of every 10 babies born with\u00a0undescended testicles, the undescended testicles will drop down into the correct position before the baby is 6 months old. If your child&#8217;s testicles do not drop by then, it is important to talk with your child&#8217;s doctor about\u00a0treatment\u00a0options.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
